Sending of Diagnostic Data Meaning

Understand what Samsung and Android diagnostic sharing can include, why it is requested, and how to make a deliberate privacy choice.

Plain-language answer

“Sending diagnostic data” means allowing a phone or app to transmit technical information about performance, errors, device configuration, and usage so the provider can find faults and improve products. It is not the same as sending every file or message, but the exact fields and destination depend on the setting, service, region, and software version.

Three questions behind the switch

01

Who receives it?

A Samsung setting, Google’s Android usage control, and an individual app’s crash-report option can send data to different organizations.

02

What is included?

Typical examples include crash, battery, network, model, software, and feature-use information. An error report may include broader system logs.

03

Can it be changed?

Many usage-and-diagnostics controls are optional and reversible. Essential service communications and app-specific collection can continue separately.

Consent is not a universal privacy switch

Turning one diagnostic option off does not disable every telemetry source. Google states that disabling Android usage and diagnostics does not affect information collected by other apps. Samsung Members also asks separately whether to include system log data with an error report.
